--Oyo govt distributes palliatives to students.

 
The Oyo State Government has distributed palliatives to the students of The Polytechnic,Ibadan as part of efforts to cushion the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.
During the presentation at the   the institution’s SUG building, President of the union, Comrade Blessing Fadare disclosed that the relief packages included food items such as rice,semolina,yam flour,groundnut oil, among others.

He further explained that the distribution was facilitated by the Students Union Government, adding that the packages were given to Students Association in Oyo State, while the remaining were shared among indigenous associations within the state.
According to Folashade Adedeji,the Student Union Welfare Director,the union selected the beneficiaries based on a survey on its platform with only those who participated getting the palliatives.
“I’m really disappointed in some of the beneficiaries. Out of those selected, few showed up, we had to make another selection to ensure that the packages were delivered”, she said.
Ogundele Quadri, one of the beneficiaries from the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, expressed happiness for getting the package and lauded the efforts of SUG for working on behalf of the students.
Another beneficiary, Ridwan Kaffo, from the Department of Architecture, thanked the state government and also the SUG for the palliatives.
He advised the other students of the institution to always take cognisance of every activity on campus because many saw the link for the survey but ignored it.
The Deputy Speaker of the students union legislative council, Senator Bikini Taiye appreciated the state government for reaching out to the students while urging government to double its efforts to make sure all students benefit next time.
At the event the students present were admonished by the SUG officials to adhere strictly to the guidelines put forward by health authorities, while praying for a swift return to normality in the country.
Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases exceed 30,000.



Nigeria crossed the 30,000 mark on Wednesday, with a total of 30,249 coronavirus infections now confirmed across the country.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 460 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, while the fatality toll increased with another 15 deaths in the last 24 hours.
More than 100 patients have died of coronavirus complications in the past 14 day, bringing the country’s current total to 684 deaths.
According to the NCDC situation update for July 7, published on Wednesday, Taraba is the only state yet to record any COVID-19 death.
The number of recoveries has also increased to 12,373.

--SAD! 20-Year-Old Girl Raped And Killed In Illorin.

20-year-old lady identified as Abdulrahman Safau Omowumi has been reported raped and matcheted to death at Gerewu area of Ilorin metropolis.
The deceased was, until her death a student of Bathelomew College of Health Technology, Shao in Moro local government area of Kwara State.
The deceased, until her death was doing her internship at Abebi Hospital Gerewu, and temporarily lived with her uncle at Gerewu due to proximity to her place of attachment.
She left home on Saturday 27th of June around 4pm and she did not return home till Sunday morning. The family reported to the police.
The police later found her corpse beside a river at Oko-oba in Gerewu village on Sunday morning, with matchet cuts on her head and she was suspected to have been raped.
Her corpse was deposited at the Ilorin General Hospital morgue.

--Face mask can cause failed ATM transactions – Banks.

Banks have advised customers to remove their face masks when carrying out transactions through Automated Teller Machines to ensure that their faces are properly recognised.
Findings revealed that some banks have installed face detection features in their ATMs which can prevent an ATM from dispensing cash if it is unable to recognise the face of the user.
While the banks have introduced the wearing of face masks as a condition to enter the banking halls, they have also advised customers to remove it when they want to withdraw money from ATMs.
In an email to its customers on measures to keep transactions protected, Fidelity Bank said, “Wearing of face masks is a safety and precautionary measure we must all adhere to in this period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“However, we advise that you remove your face mask while making withdrawals or carrying out ATM transactions to allow our ATM properly recognise you.
“Fidelity Bank ATM machines have face detection features installed to curb incidences of fraudulent ATM withdrawals.
“Consequently, you may not be able to carry out any transaction if our ATMs are not able to properly recognise you. We apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause you.”
As lockdown continues to ease gradually, banks have continued to expand their operations.
Grandparents held for torturing seven-year-old.

A 57-year-old man, Joseph Akporugo and his wife, Janet, have been arrested by police in Ogun State for torturing their seven-year-old granddaughter.
The child, who was accused of killing her father by witchcraft, had several scars on her body.
The girl walked into the house of a nearby police constable in Awa-Ijebu area of the state and reported her ordeal at the hands of her grandparents, with whom she had been living since her father’s death.
She narrated how the couple burned her with hot rubber.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed that the Akporugos have been arrested.
